A message from Jade Islan Sayson, ARM Editor-in-Chief:

Hello angel risers! From leaves changing color to pumpkin spice everything, we all know there’s too much to love about autumn. It’s a time of reflection—when rough days are sometimes only a brisk walk away from being better. The trees and the seasons change, so naturally, we change with them. And whether you’re a college student trying to survive midterms or just an average person trying to get your life together (trust me, we all are), every transition comes with its own ups and downs. In this issue, our contributors teach us how they deal with these instances and to never settle for lukewarm, despite all the obstacles that come their way. We hope these stories inspire you to do the same as they manifest how self-improvement is always 100% possible, no matter what the circumstances! Even Angel Rising Magazine is undergoing some huge changes (spot the difference, anyone?). Together, we can set out to endlessly create ourselves, because there’s nothing wrong with admitting that you’re under construction.

Project Michelangelo Foundation with VP Dr. Imelda Banting sponsors The 7th International Film Festival Manhattan Awards Night

On October 18, 2017, Project Michelangelo Foundation was part of the Seventh International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) awards night celebrated at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center, Fifth Ave., New York City, USA.  It was well attended (standing room only) by several filmmakers, actors, producers, scriptwriters from all over the world.  The event has been successfully headed by Luis Pedron for seven years now, with the exceptional partnership of Gerry Balasta and Jeanette Marco.

At the beginning of the night, the original song, ROCHELLE (Tribute to Progeria Kids), written and sung by the PMF Vice President, Dr. Imelda Cruz Banting,  was played along with the MTV showing on the screen.  It was a great opportunity for PMF to be introduced to the film industry/showbiz and make them aware of the missions done by the foundation.  We hope to get some support from them in the near future.

Included in the attendance was our very own angel DJ Chinita, who graced the red carpet interview of the stars, directors, and producers.  It was indeed a night filled with meeting new acquaintances and fellowship. Hopefully this is not the first and last time.

September, a sad time for our Project Michelangelo Foundation family

Nova Mae O. Divinaflor, 8, one of the special children under our care in the Philippines lost her battle with the debilitating effects of Progeria or advanced aging in children.  She is now laid to rest in Bicol, Philippines escorted by our PMF family under the leadership of our PMF Exec. Director Enrico de Guzman.  We would like to thank all of our donors worldwide who helped in all of the medical and burial expenditures.  For this outpouring of kindness, we bless you in the name of Jesus Christ.

A message from Jade I. Sayson, ARM Editor-in-Chief:

“Hello angel risers! We all know that with the colder weather and shorter days comes the smell of autumn in the air, excessive pumpkin spice lattes, and cozy sweaters. The hustle and bustle of September has finally come to an end, and as we’re trying to recover from the busy month whether it was with school or work, the changing of the seasons has never been so refreshing. So what better way is there to relax and unwind than to sit down with a cup of coffee and our latest issue? We wish to continue inspiring you as always with one-of-a-kind stories from our writers and with hopes that their personal experiences will encourage you to go out and make the most of your own. As the holidays get closer, remember to take some extra time to show those who matter to you some extra gratitude and lovin’! There are so many things to be thankful for every day, big or small; sometimes we forget to take the time out of the busyness of our lives to pay attention to the little details!”

Project Michelangelo now has 5 Philippine Progeria children under their protection and medical assistance

Progeria childrenIn a constant search to assist the Progeria Research Foundation and locating the very few rare cases of Progeria that afflict children causing advanced aging and shortened lifespan, Project Michelangelo set out to find the few cases suspected in the Philippines. We now have 5 of these wonderful children to assist medical care and empower through the mission directorship of angel Enrico de Guzman, our PMF Missions Team Leader and Coordinator based in Manila, Philippines. Our 3rd and 4th cases are both siblings and received their clinical trials with the Progeria Research Foundation at Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. They were received by our PMF Vice President, Dr. Imelda Cruz Banting of New York accompanied by her family.

Progeria Angel team

The 5th case was recently discovered through social media and our PMF Angel Team comprising Enrico De Guzman, Bebot de Guzman, Ms. Queen of the Beautiful Planet Apol Mora, and Dennis Asis, was dispatched in the far reaches of Bicol, Philippines to meet the family to prepare them for application for clinical trials with the Progeria Research Foundation.

Project Michelangelo Foundation reaches space, a High Altitude Balloon Empowerment Mission

Last May 30, 2016 on Memorial Day at Koerner Aviation Airport in Kankakee, Project Michelangelo Foundation (PMF) in partnership with the NASA IVD Team for the International Space Station, High Altitude Balloonist Darryl Hedges of HAB LLC with volunteers from the Kankakee Area Radio Society (KARS) conducted a successful mission to send a payload to space pulled by a High Altitude Balloon at an estimated altitude via telemetry of over 98, 832 ft., almost three times the cruising altitude of commercial jetliners. The payload carried Astronaut Bob, a 12 inch G.I. Joe action figure, a copy of Springboard to Heaven, the Jojo Sayson Adventure motivational book with proceeds directly donated back to the children's empowerment & rescue missions of PMF, mission patches of PMF & the NASA IVD Team, flags of the United States, France, and the Philippines. This space mission endeavor is also a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) educational awareness & a commemoration for the victims of the Paris terror attack in 2015. The Actual Flight Time of the High Altitude Balloon flight to space and back to Earth with a parachuted payload equipped with 2 GoPro cameras and flight recording instruments was 2 Hours 6 Minutes 53 Seconds. The altitude, direction, temperature, speed, ascent and descent rate information were tracked in real time via telemetry and GPS using the APRS.FI website by Mission Control held at Jojo Sayson’s Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation clinic in Bourbonnais. Finally, the payload was retrieved in a field by the Launch/Chase Team east of the launch site past the Indiana State line 26.67 Miles from the launch site. This Mission to Space was primarily intended to inspire both children and educators to become pro-active in achieving higher educational standards and promote peace and cooperation to all the nations of the world.

PMF Chief Medical Officer Doc Ted Esguerra & the Philippine Rescue Team in Nepal

Project Michelangelo Foundation responds
to the Earthquake Tragedy in Nepal

Dear World,
As we go along our way bombarded by the everyday news of violence and tragedies, it is so easy to get calloused & become apathetic to suffering elsewhere outside our fences. On April 25, 2015, when a massive earthquake left over 8,000 dead & thousands more injured in Nepal, Project Michelangelo Foundation has been tapped by the Good Lord to assist in partnership with the Energy Development Corporation’s Emergency and Disaster Response Unit (EDC-EDRU) and several other Philippine entities through the valiant & compassionate spirit of our PMF Chief Medical Officer Ted 'Everest Doc' Esguerra. Lord, please guide us that we may continue to move forward together and rekindle active compassion from those who witness these disasters. Please watch over our Philippine rescue team. I pray that we would have sufficient funding for logistics & manpower. I know you will provide Lord. We march forward. Hugs. - your servant, Jojo Sayson, President/Founder PMF

2014:

Rochelle is joined by Kim in Boston for Progeria clinical trials

By Jojo Sayson

Rochelle and Kim The only 2 known cases of Progeria in the Republic of the Philippines, Rochelle, 17 and Kim, 8 traveled 10,000 miles to Boston Children’s Hospital from Nov. 29 through Dec. 6, 2014 for medical tests and clinical trials of a new drug Lonafarnib for life extending treatments. This mission is a joint cooperation between The Progeria Research Foundation (PRF) with its collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital and Project Michelangelo Foundation in the Philippines. Results thus far of lonafarnib use for children with Progeria are very promising in what appears to be longer life expectancy and improved well-being for those being treated. The tremendous work by PRF’s Medical Director Dr. Leslie Gordon and all of the researchers are giving hope to those with Progeria and their families as well as the staff of Audrey Gordon at The Progeria Research Foundation office in Peabody, MA. Rochelle and Kim have been both so elated that this chance to travel to Boston has given them and their loved ones so much hope in living longer and normal lives.

Rochelle and Kim

Project Michelangelo President Jojo Sayson and VP Dr. Imelda Cruz Banting together with her family met with Rochelle and Kim in Boston Logan Airport as they arrived from the Philippines together with Rochelle’s mother Rosanna and Kim’s dad Dennis. Jojo remained for the duration of the clinical trials in Boston as interpreter and caretaker. Our PMF Philippine Team dutifully assisted in arrangements and legal documents for their travel headed by PMF Philippine Missions Director Rommel San Pascual and PMF delegate and spokesperson Anngeli Chu Ong. Tremendous assistance was also provided by PMF Dr. Maria Consuelo, PMF Board of Director Leo Riingen, PMF Board of Director Doc Ayong and moral support from Chief Medical Officer Doc Ted Esguerra, PMF Springboard to Heaven agent Enrico De Guzman, PRF Trial Coordinator Kyra Johnson, and a host of many other volunteers and donors. Special gratitude to Thomas Quigley, President of “No Thanks Needed” (http://www.nothanksneeded.org/) for our transportation needs as well as the local Filipino community in Boston for their hospitality.

Rochelle and KimRochelle and Kim are now back home in the Philippines with their drug supply under the watchful eyes of our Project Michelangelo Angel Medical Team. It is statistically estimated that there are approximately 5-6 more unknown children with Progeria in the Philippines. Project Michelangelo Foundation is now on a mission to find them so they can get the unique care they need. Worldwide, experts estimate there are approximately another 175 children with Progeria still unaccounted for. Please contact PRF at info@progeriaresearch.org if you suspect that a child has Progeria and has not yet connected with PRF. For further information please visit The Progeria Research Foundation “Find the other 150” campaign at http://www.findtheother150.org/

Let it be known that Project Michelangelo Foundation is the official protectorate of Rochelle and Kim. All photos and videos of these children require legal permission for use outside the intended missions of our association. Watch ABS-CBN Balitang America on Rochelle’s arrival in Boston.

Most of the proceeds will benefit the victims of the disasters from Philippine Typhoon Haiyan-Yolanda. Meiling Jin, (International Chinese model & journalist, & Board of Director) guest beauty queens including Dawn Frison Cook (National Miss) & more gave most unforgettable appearances & crowd interaction. Alyssa Norden sang the Star Spangled banner while a soldier from the US Army held the American flag. Jojo Sayson, Founder of Project Michelangelo went up on the squared ring together with Meiling & made a speech about the missions of Project Michelangelo including assistance to the Philippine Relief operations from the devastating Typhoon Haiyan-Yolanda. Spectacular & high-flying moves wowed the crowd with appearances by the rock-solid Hunter Paine Csw Southland Heavyweight Champion, the amazing Tag Team Champs, The Lunatic and The Strangler with The Keeper Erik Edwards, & more. The guest of honor was Mikey Guiney could not make it from the hospital as he was still recovering from his most recent surgery but his dad Karl & twin brother Matt were present in the festivities. The night was magical as the crowd gave generous donations for the Typhoon victims as well as some giving back their raffle prizes to Mikey's dad. Christmas was in the air with so much blessings as even some of the wrestlers for the night gave up their professional fees & handed them over for Mikey's dreams. The snowstorm that day could not dampen the love that can only come from the celebrant of the Christmas season Himself, Christ Jesus. Project Michelangelo will always praise the Almighty. God bless the children, God bless the wrestlers, God bless the Philippines, but most of all God bless America. Merry Christmas to all.
