Background/Profession: Chelise Slowik is an artist born in Kankakee Illinois who works in both oil and encaustic paint. Encaustic painting is one of the oldest and most durable forms of painting, which incorporates colored pigment into a hot wax medium. She has a passion for teaching and holds a Master of Science degree in Education from Southwest Baptist University and a Master of Arts degree in Painting from Governors State University.
Specialties: Chelise has been an educator for the past 25 years, as an associate professor of art at both Olivet Nazarene University and currently, Kankakee Community College where she teaches basic drawing, figure drawing, and art history courses.
Philosophy: Chelise believes that everyone can learn how to draw through practice – very much like the practice needed to learn an instrument. Whatever your passion – pursue it with childlike excitement!
