Subsequently she was accepted as a medical scholar in one of the leading medical schools in the Philippines, the University of the City of Manila, from 1986-1990. She trained at the Ospital ng Maynila for her clerkship and post-graduate internship up to 1991. In the same hospital, she furthered her career by pursuing a residency training in Internal Medicine and Intensive Cardiac Care Unit from 1991 to 1995. With the increasing incidence and prevalence of diabetes, she decided to add to her expertise in this field and earned her Masters of Science in Internal Medicine Major in Diabetes (1995-1997) at University of the East Institute for Studies in Diabetes Foundation, Inc.
